I dont think its good pratice to replace old technology with some new tech that dont bring any significant improvement.R21 sometimes seems faster and sometimes S22 behaves a little better.I also confirm that both versions provide different values in HUD triangle count and that seems strange. The FPS from R21 were about 4.4 against 3.3 from S22 (all frames off).
Its a little better perhaps, but not enough to be mentioned as a big upgrade. Maxon Cinema 4D R21 Plus 2 SsdsFor an instance, i have an Intel i7 5280K at 4.2 (OC) 64 gigs RAM, Nvidia 1070 Ti 8gb 970gtx (for gpu render aux) with latest drivers, plus 2 ssds to installation and cache. Its a decent machine, not brand new but i find weird that i have much better performance in other modules of r21 than in s22. Somehow the sculpting in s22 its very bad with 2milion pollygons. Dont get me wrong, i was not complaining about r21 being slow, but now, advertising better performance i find that bad publicity. Yes, it handles 8000 clone cubes better than r21 but i tried 1000 cubes wich one with 1000 polys and s22 became sluggish. The new viewport is all about replacing the core technology of the viewport with something more modern that allows for future additions and improvements the old system did not allow for. At this time the biggest goal was compatibility to modern hardware and OS, where OGL is not as prominent and available as it was in the past. As is welll known the main viewport speed hindrance is not the viewport but the object system, thus the new viewport can only be faster in specific situations, like the instances. There are several improvements regarding display quality, but over all we were aiming for at least feature parity. ![]() That also means we will have to iron out a few things over time. Like the new modeling core the new viewport is one of the many steps we are taking towards the future of Cinema 4D.
